This research purpose is to analyze the types of slang words, types of translation techniques, and the dominantly used translation technique in translating slang words in the novel Shine by Jessica Jung. For the type of slang words, the researcher using Allan and Burridge theory meanwhile for the type of translation technique the researcher using Molina and Albir theory. For this research, the researcher found 70 data and it used descriptive qualitative method to analyze. The analysis shows that there are 5 types of slang words such as 67,1% (47 data) are Flippant slang words, 11,4% (8 data) are Fresh and Creative slang words, 8’6% (6 data) are Imitative slang words, 7,1% (5 data) are Acronyms slang words, and 5,8% (4 data) are Clipping slang words. Researcher also found 5 types of translation technique such as 75,8% (47 data) are Discursive Creation, 11,4% (8 data) are Established Equivalent, 5,8% (4 data) are Total Reduction, 4,2% (3 data) are Pure Borrowing, and 2,8% (2 data) are Borrowing Naturalized. Based on analysis, the most common type of translation technique that found in translating novel Shine by Jessica Jung is Discursive Creation with 75,8%. Not only deixis, the researcher also provides an analysis of language functions in this study so that readers/listeners can understand the meaning of this song precisely and deeply. This study is aimed not only at people who love songs, but also at students who have difficulty determining the references and meanings of literal translations, and can be very useful in improving their English proficiency. This study used a qualitative descriptive research method and analyzed the deictic words in the "Minefields" song lyric. The researcher collects data by searching the lyric script on internet then recorded the deictic words found in "Minefields" song lyric. Therefore, the researcher analyze song lyric based on the type and function of deixis, determine the meaning references and analyze the deictic words using the study of language functions. The data source was the "Minefields" song lyric script. In addition, This song tells the story of two people who have had an affair in the past. This song contains many deictic words and elements of language such as poetic, conative and so on. The researcher analyzed the data by using the theory of Stephen C. Levinson who divided deixis into five types, namely 1) personal deixis; 2) spatial deixis; 3) temporal deixis; 4) discourse deixis and 5) social deixis. Moreover, the researcher classified the deictic words were found into each types of deixis based on Levinson's theory. In addition, the researcher determine the reference of deictic words contained in the Minefields song lyric then analyze them using study of language functions. There are fourty collected data that were found in this song lyric by the researcher of which twenty three data belong to personal deixis, two spatial deictic words, four belong to temporal deixis and eleven of discourse deictic words. The researcher suggested other researchers to discover more about deixis uses different data sources not only in the lyrics but can also be used in radio, advertising, fairy tales and others. Both "personality" and "character" are interchangeable concepts. Both of these are considered as traits based on a person's social formation. Character is defined as a unique characteristic, quality, style, or personality of a person based on the formation of society in the book Mutmainnah. Many researchers make literary works such as song lyrics, novels, and so on as objects in their research because literary works are considered the easiest objects to analyze. However, only a few of them have researched the development of the nation's character in literary works. In fact, the formation of national character is very important for students in the world of education so that it attracts researchers to conduct this research. The aims of this research are (1) To identify the national characters building that appear in song lyrics of Stand out fit in, A millions dreams and By my side. (2) To describe the contextual meanings of the national character building found in the selected songs‟ lyrics. The researcher chose descriptive qualitative as the research design because the researcher wanted to analyze and report the results and findings using words rather than numbers. In analyzing the data, this study uses content analysis techniques by comparing data, making categorizations, presenting data tabulations, verbally describing, and interpreting findings to make inferences. The results showed that: The researcher found 4 national characters in “Stand out fit in song” that has been analyzed into 3 independents, 1 hardworking, 1 love of peace. In “A million dreams song” the researcher found 5 National character building that has been analyzed into 2 Curious, 1 independent, 1 Communicative, 1 peace loving, 1 Tolerance. The more vocabulary you have, the more skilled a person's patterns are in writing, such as narrative writing. To communicate information or roles to its readers, it needs a lot of words. In this research, the researcher applied Modeling The Way to solve the problems that were faced by the students. This research was conducted in order to Improving Vocabulary in Students’ Speaking Ability by Using Modelling The Way for the Fourth Grade at MI Miftahul Huda Prangas. In conducting this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of research. The researcher conducted this research in two cycles. First cycle is guiding consisted of two meetings and second cycle is implementing consisted of one meeting. The researcher used modeling The Way to make pleasant atmosphere during teaching and learning process of vocabulary, and more importantly to improve vocabulary in students’ speaking ability. The subject of this research was the students of fourth grader students in MI Miftahul Huda Prangas. The instruments to collect the data were observation checklist, and vocabulary test. The result of this research showed that by using Modeling The Way Technique in teaching vocabulary, especially in daily activities. The researcher could improve vocabulary of the students. Their responses showed that they were interested to learn vocabulary subject because they felt easier to memorizing vocabulary, understand and got new vocabulary using Modeling The Way Technique. Based on the result of cycle 1 the average of their score is 74. This study applied a basic qualitative research approach. The data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires were distributed to the different school students, and the interviews were conducted with six private Islamic elementary school English teachers. Then, the data were analyzed qualitatively. The findings revealed that elementary school students, especially Private Islamic Elementary Schools Students in Malang Regency encountered some challenges in learning English, especially in pronunciation, vocabulary mastery, writing English words correctly (spelling), and memorizing English vocabulary.
